Benefits to Water Exercise
Swimming Pool workouts have many benefits and can be done alone or in conjunction to your existing exercise program to enhance it. Water aerobics is considered a low impact exercise because water makes you feel about 90% lighter. Your body does not experience the same impact that the moves would cause on land. This makes water exercise ideal for those with body injuries, back problems, arthritis and may other injuries or problems.
Pool workouts are also a great way to build up cardio endurance. The blood moves at a faster rate to warm it up when in cooler water. Like any exercise, pool workouts are great stress relievers. The movement of water against the body results in massage and relaxation along with the exercise stimulating the brain to release endorphins which are a chemical that makes the body feel good!
Expect to burn between 400 and 500 calories per hour in water. The actual amount you will burn depends on your size, intensity of movements and many other factors.
Lastly when exercising in water you work against 10 times the resistance of air. Simple movements in water contribute to developing muscles which gives you a higher, faster metabolism and an all around healthier body!
