Using Your Swimming Pool Winter Cover

Safety cover manufacturers strongly recommend that a qualified pool professional install your safety cover initially to ensure all safety standards are met and that installation is done properly. The Pool Doctor Contractors of Staten Island are professionally trained to install these covers properly to give you peace of mind throughout the months your swimming pool is covered.

After proper installation of your safety cover it should be taut across the pool, if not contact your pool professional to make any necessary adjustments. Unless cleaning debris from the mesh panels or from around the automatic pump we do not recommend walking across the cover. The cover is designed to support an adults weight and more but should still be avoided. Do not walk on the edge of the cover to avoid excessive wear on your cover.

Important information for mesh and solid safety cover owners to ensure safety standards are met are to monitor the pools water level over the winter months. To check over the winter simply remove a spring at a convenient corner of the pool and pull the cover back to view the water, If the water level is more than 18 inches from the cover put your garden hose in the pool and add water tot he appropriate level of 6 inches from the cover. If the water level is less than 6 inches from the cover, place a water pump on your first step and pump some water out of the pool to the correct level. The swimming pool water level must be maintained between 6 inches and 18 inches from the cover. If it is not maintained at this level the cover warranties may be voiced, serious structural damage to cover and/or hardware may occur and possible safety hazards are a possibility.
