The Importance of Pool Cover Maintenance
Pool Covers should remain clear of water and snow at all times.
It is extremely important to remove snow and water off of your pool cover as soon as possible. Large accumulations of snow should be carefully removed, taking all necessary precautions to not damage the pool cover.
With an above ground swimming pool, the weight of snow or rain weighs down on the cover essentially pulling the walls of the pool in towards the center potentially causing damage to the walls and / or top rails of your swimming pool.
If you have an inground swimming pool, heavy snow or an excessive amount of rain water can cause the safety cover anchors to pop out or damage the pools coping.
An automatic cover pump is highly recommended to immediately remove water as it collects on the cover. To remove snow gently use a long broom to push snow off the cover. DO NOT use anything with sharp edges like a shovel as this can cause damage to your winter cover. If the snow is light weight you can use a leaf blower as well.
Remember failing to perform winter maintenance and keeping the cover free of all snow, water and debris can and will cause damage to the cover and pool.
