Winter Pool Cover Disasters
A very important part of your winter pool closing is putting the cover on securely. A tightly put on winter cover protects the pool water from debris and weather conditions, but you can defeat the purpose if something happens to the cover and you ignore it. Avoid opening your swimming pool in the spring with a lot of clean up to do by throwing on some warm clothes, taking care of any issues and by doing winter maintenance for your cover now.
Here are some pool cover issues that can arise during the winter:
Branches, sticks or any sharp debris can pierce the pool cover.
Wild animals can claw and rip the pool cover.
Strong winds can shred above ground pool covers that are loose.
Heavy snow or rain left on top of the cover can pull a cover into the pool or rip the cover, seam or safety cover straps.
Throughout the winter months check the tightness of your pool cover, remove all water and debris off the cover and check for rips and tears. If any rips are found either patch or replace it as soon as possible to avoid a big mess in the spring.
